Love South Carolina barbecue? Just a fan of all things BBQ in general? This is the newsletter for you. James Roller has been covering SC "barbeque" (as many here prefer to spell it) since he and his wife Heather set out on a "Summer BBQ Tour" way back in 2012. Today, destination-bbq.com is the website for all things SCBBQ, and this newsletter builds on that tradition.

Friday Fire Up
Hey Reader
A few burnt odds and ends for your Friday morning:
Poll Question: Three days to cast your vote:
SC natives in a blind taste test, which wood-cooked BBQ wins?
Featured Recipe: While this is less recipe and more shop talk, I think you'll learn something from listening to the conversation between John Lewis of Lewis BBQ and Robby Melvin, Southern Living's test kitchen director.
Perfect Pair: As my friend Boris has been trying to teach me, wine can and does pair nicely with barbecue. He shares a particular passion for an American grape that you might not have heard of.
Nope, it's not a muscadine or scuppernong, but rather a native species known at Norton, which you can learn about here. It's an interesting video.
Boris tells me that "Norton wine best needs aging for several years after bottling, but you will be pleased with the current 2021 vintage." And if you're interested, you'll find over 80 Norton vineyards in the US including Virginia, Missouri, and even nearby Georgia.
"NE Georgia has three nice Norton wineries," Boris shared.
BBQ and Norton wine, two American originals that belong together.
Amazon Adventure: When you open that bottle of Norton, or whatever varietal you prefer, you can keep that open bottle fresh with the Vacu Vin wine saver pump, an America's Test Kitchen winner.
SCBBQ Product Spotlight: Greenwood-basedSmokin' Coals offers award-winning products like their gift box set:
Last Week’s Poll Results: In the most predictable poll, no surprise about the winner:
Cheers,
Jim
